One winter morning Peter woke up and lookedout the window. Snow had fallen during the night. It covered everything as faras he could see.

After breakfast he put on his snowsuit andran outside. The snow was piled up very high along the street to make a pathfor walking.

Crunch, crunch, crunch, his feet sank intothe snow. He walked with his toes pointing out, like this: He walked with his toes pointing in, likethat:

Then he dragged his feet s-l-o-w-l-y tomake tracks.

And he found something sticking out of thesnow that, made a new track.

It was a stick — a stick that was justright for smacking a snow-covered tree.

Down fell the snow — plop! — on top ofPeter’s head.

He thought it would be fun to join the bigboys in their snowball fight, but he knew he wasn’t old enough — not yet.

他觉得和大哥哥们打雪仗一定会很好玩，但他知道自己还不够大。


So he made a smiling snowman, and he madeangels.

于是，他做了一个微笑的雪人，又做了一个天使。


He pretended he was a mountain-climber.

He climbed up a great big tall heapingmountain of snow–

and slid all the way down.

他假装他是一位登山者。他爬上了一座又高又大的堆成了山的雪。再一路滑到山脚下。


He picked up a handful of snow — andanother, and still another.

He packed it round and firm and put the snowball inhis pocket for tomorrow. Then he went into his warm house.

He told his mother all about his adventureswhile she took off his wet socks.

他抓起了一把雪——一把，再一把。他把雪压成圆圆硬硬的雪球放进口袋里，留着明天再玩。

然后他回到温暖的家里。

妈妈帮他脱下湿袜子，他把他做的那些好玩的事告诉妈妈。


And he thought and thought and thoughtabout them.

他一直想，一直想着那些好玩的事。


Before he got into bed he looked in hispocket. His pocket was empty. The snowball wasn’tthere. He felt very sad.

上床前，他摸了一下他的口袋。口袋里空空的。雪球不见了。

他好伤心。


While he slept, he dreamed that the sun hadmelted all the snow away.

But when he woke up his dream was gone. Thesnow was still everywhere. New snow was falling!

他睡着了，他梦见太阳把所有的雪都融化了。不过，他一醒来，梦就不见了。到处都是雪，新的雪还不停地下着！


After breakfast he called to his friendfrom across the hall, and they went out together into the deep, deep snow.

吃完早餐，他去找住在对面的朋友。他们一起跑进深深的雪地里。
