No one in the Belgian village of Saint-Hubert was surprised that Pierre-Joseph Redouté wanted to be an artist when he grew up, because his father was a painter, just like his father and grand- father before him.
Papa Redouté painted decorations for the Benedictine abbey that stood next to the great basilica in the center of the village.
And sometimes, to make ends meet, he painted portraits.
