It was raining, but the sun wasshining at the same time.The children looked up and saw a rainbow acrossthe sky.

“ I wonder where the rainbow begins?" asked Wilf,and where it ends?"

下雨天，但同时太阳灿烂。孩子们抬起头来，看到天空中有一道彩虹。

In a place far away, there was a lorry. It wasa very big lorry because on the back was a verybig machine.' The machine made rainbows andwas called The Rainbow Machine.

There are seven colours in the rainbow. It tookseven people to look after the rainbow machine.They cleaned it and polished it and they madesure it worked properly.

在一个很远的地方，有一辆卡车。那是一辆非常大的卡车，因为在后面是一台非常大的机器。这台机器可以制造彩虹，被称为彩虹机器。

The rainbow machine had to be ready at anytime. Sometimes weeks and weeks went by and a rainbow was not needed. But when the call came, the rainbow makers had to work fast.

Off they went in the lorry. While it was goingalong, the rainbow makers got the machine ready.Then, one... two.. .three... Go! They pressed abutton and the rainbow shot out of the machine.

彩虹机器必须随时准备就绪。有时几个星期过去，不需要彩虹。但是当电话响起的时候，彩虹制造制造者们不得不快速地工作。

When there was a rainbow, everyone stoppedto look at it. Childrenran to their mums or dadsand said, What a beautiful rainbow!

Sometimes the rainbow was very bright butsometimes it was quite pale. Often the childrenran towards it. They wanted to find the end of it,and play in all the colours. But, of course, they never could.

当有彩虹的时候，每个人都停下来看。孩子们跑向他们的妈妈或爸爸说:“多么美丽的彩虹!”

One of the rainbow makers was a young mancalled Fred. He was new and he was learning tobe a rainbow maker. One day, the other i rainbowmakers said, I ook after the lorry, Fred. We won’tbe long."

The lorry was on a double yellow line. Fred saw a traffic warden.

'Oh no! 'said Fred. "I must move the rainbow machine."

So he climbed into the driver's cab and drove away.
